Összefoglaló. A szájüregi daganatok kuratív kezelésében az elsődlegesen választandó műtét mellett a sugárterápiának is jelentős szerepe van. lokális tumormentesség biztosításához azonban dóziseszkaláció szükséges. Ennek külső besugárzással való megvalósítása környező normálszövetek fölösleges dózisterhelésével és ebből következő mellékhatások előfordulásának emelkedésével jár. brachytherapia (BT) – amelynek során radioaktív sugárforrást/sugárforrásokat juttatunk tumorba vagy annak közelébe lehetővé teszi helyileg magasabb dózis leadását ép szövetek kímélésével. BT korai, T1–2N0 stádiumú tumoroknál kedvező prognosztikai faktorok akár kizárólagosan mint posztoperatíve egyedül alkalmazott terápiás modalitás jön szóba. Kedvezőtlenebb prognózis esetén előrehaladottabb stádiumban (T3–4 N+) műtétet és/vagy percutan irradiációt kiegészítő eljárásként alkalmazható sugárfizikai tulajdonságai miatt. kis dózisteljesítményű (low-dose-rate, LDR) BT-t már évtizedek óta alkalmazzák terápiában, de ezt kezdi kiszorítani nagy (high-dose-rate, HDR), illetve pulzáló (pulse-dose-rate, PDR) BT. jelen áttekintő tanulmány célja irodalmi adatok alapján szerepének indikációjának ismertetése kezelésében, alrégiókra lebontva.
